Tehran is ready to restart nuclear negotiations with Washington on condition that it is treated with "respect" and "honor", Tehran's top diplomat has declared.

Abbas Araghchi stated solely negotiations was effective, and revealed fresh requests had originated from go-betweens to restart talks with the American leadership. He claimed Iran possessed no undeclared nuclear sites, and Tehran was not yet able to allow the UN nuclear inspectorate to inspect bombed nuclear sites for protective measures.

Navigating a Complex Course

Araghchi is navigating a difficult path since Iran does not want be perceived to be proceeding from a position of weakness, and he emphatically stated that Iran had arisen more resilient militarily and emotionally from the coordinated strike on its nuclear sites in June.

He was talking at a defense forum in Tehran where he reaffirmed that Iran had "a fundamental entitlement to enrich uranium within its borders that it will perpetually retain" – the key factor of the stalemate in the earlier negotiations.

Prior Discussions Unexpectedly Concluded

The previous five rounds of discussions between the US and Iran were ended suddenly and bitter conclusion on 12 June when the Israeli government, with US support, struck Iranian nuclear sites in a 12-day war that culminated with the US president asserting the locations had been eliminated. Afterward, EU nations used their privilege to reinstate UN-wide sanctions, but Iran asserts they have not had a substantial consequence.

Ideal Resolution Suggested

Iranian officials claimed they felt they had reached a "ideal resolution" to the nuclear fuel concern in earlier negotiations, when it was settled an local partnership with Washington's engagement could enrich uranium. Each party would have been able to claim victory since domestic enrichment would have continued and the US could be confident that Iran's nuclear programme was exclusively peaceful.
